DON’T BE FRIGHTENED!

Most of us will know somebody with a phobia, whether it be heights, enclosed spaces or the dinner dishes (my children). I am reliably informed that some Councillors have a phobia about this site (though I suspect that this fear is confused with “guilt”). Today’s Times (along with the New Statesman) has uncovered some strange fears. Here are a few to keep you afraid:

Nucleomituphobia – fear of nuclear war (very topical)

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliphobia – fear of long words (of course!)

Pentheraphobia – fear of the mother in law (oh yes)

Odontophobia – fear of dental work (or the bill)
