Greed

I can think of nothing more morally reprehensible than trying to take the complete savings from a dead mans family, but according to Court papers obtained by today’s Time’s, that’s exactly what the Conservative Party tried to do in October 2007.

In 2005 Branislav Kostic died, leaving a hefty £8 million (his entire fortune) to the Conservative Party. However, Mr Kostic’s mental state had been under scrutiny for some time, and his family lodged a court claim against the disposal of his money. The evidence was pretty sell evident – Mr Kostic had constantly referred to monsters, Satan and evil demons planning to take over the world. However, Mr Kostics delicate state of mind was obviously not evident to Tory HQ, who instigated their own counter claim for the money – they wanted what was rightfully theirs! With interest the amount now stood at £10, and with funds at bit on the low side, Mr Kostic’s dependents could whistle.

Not according to a Judge in the High Court however. He has ruled that the Conservative party were wrong to contest the claim, and has awarded Mr Kostic’s son Zoran, an immediate costs payment of £250,000, with a further total claim of £650,000 being lodged this year.

Greed compelled the Conservative Party to pursue this matter, but it has cost them £700,000 in legal fees alone. The stain that it has left on their moral approach cannot be given a value.

The case blows a hole right through Mr Cameron’s views on inheritance tax does it not?

Money, money, money, appears to be what drives many a politician from all parties.

Without the opportunity to screw the taxpayer and everyone else come to that there would be very few of today's career politicians on the gravy train. Instead they’d probably have to find a real job, now that would be a shock to the system.

I remember the 80's when all labour did was go on about how the Conservatives were manipulating the system and lining their own pockets. So when it was their turn one of the first things they did was fit state of the art engines and a new traction system to the said gravy train which enabled them to get hold of the money much quicker whilst giving them access to untapped reserves previously not accessible.

Who says politics isn’t about greed?
