Shaun Woodward, Northern Ireland Secretary, has announced that the cost of the inquiry into the Bloody Sunday shootings in 1972 has so far cost £181.2 million. The report is being compiled, but its release is not imminent. Two years ago, its publication was described as being “soon”. The Saville inquiry was set up in 1998; if it has taken 10 years to get to this point; when we contrast "imminent” with “soon” we should see the report in about 2011, with an additional weight of £30 million for good measure!
Not a bad little earner for the legal profession, considering they were only trying to find out the truth.
