The Shields Gazette web site is today asking the question “Will the Alliance split harm the Independents' and Progressives' chances in May's local elections?” The result so far is:
72% - No
28% - Yes
Obviously the vote is not a scientific analysis, and as such it could be classed as being “unsecured”. However, it’s probably more secure than a certain missing 18 ballot boxes.
Clearly the public are unperturbed with this realignment of opposition parties, and why should they be? Seen clearly as the only way of opposing Labour dominance, The Progressives and Independents still have the public mandate when it comes to challenging what goes on at the Town Hall.
